GameStop Decides To Drop Support Of The Microsoft Zune

May 26, 2008

GameStop has announced that they are dropping support for the Microsoft Zune portable media player.New York (ChattahBox) – GameStop has announced that they are dropping support for the Microsoft Zune portable media player.

The Zune is Microsoft’s answer to the Apple iPod, and released back in November 2006. Since then it has managed to sell 2 million units, allowing Microsoft to gain a 4% market share.

Things are not going well for the Zune in GameStop though, as the retailer stated they are dropping it due to poor consumer demand.

GameStop release a statement saying “We have decided to exit the Zune category because it just did not have the appeal we had anticipated.”

The last big promotion GameStop did in regards to the Zune was with the Halo 3 edition of the Zune, which apparently did not sell very well. GameStop will sell all remaining stock they have of the Zune but will not restock.

This puts another hurdle up against Microsoft as they try to push the Zune.
