Samsung Sets New Bar With Solid State Drives

Samsung is set to make the current hard drives found in laptops obsolete with their new 256GB solid state drive (SSD)..Boston (ChattahBox) – Samsung is set to make the current hard drives found in laptops obsolete with their new 256GB solid state drive (SSD).

The new solid state drive is 2.5 times faster than current hard drives on the market as of right now, and are small enough in size that they will be a perfect solution for laptops.

The drive is 2.5-inches long and only 9.5 millimeters-thick, holding 256GB of storage capacity.

Samsung has stated that the drivers are much faster than current hard drives, with the ability to read at 200mbps, and write at 160mbps.

The new solid state drives will go into mass production by the end of 2008, and are expected to be a common hard drive in laptops by 2012.
