The NASA Phoenix Lander has sent back the most detailed pictures yet of the soil on Mars, with a full analysis of the soil due within a week or soBoston (ChattahBox) – The NASA Phoenix Lander has sent back the most detailed pictures yet of the soil on Mars, with a full analysis of the soil due within a week or so.

The Phoenix Mars Lander had some trouble with the soil at first, but is now progressing smoothly.

There are eight chemical analysis ovens in total on the Phoenix, which all will be used to analyze the soil.

As of right now, a mineral from volcanic eruptions called olivine has been found.

Analysis will look closely at white spots seen beneath the soil as the hope is that it could reveal ice. The ice could reveal information a bout the climate of Mars, the history of life on the planet, and much more.

Initial analysis of the soil on Mars is expected next week.
