The Symbian Foundation is basically taking the Symbian OS and going into an open-platform set up with it.

Nokia is hopeful to unite mobile providers and consumers with this new creation.

Some who have signed on already include LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, AT&T, Vodafone, and NTT DoCoMo.

Those in the foundation get royalty-free rights to use the Symbian OS platform.

Nokia is hopeful to make the Symbian OS and other software the standard for mobile phones.
