Real Networks has announced the release of RealDVD, which retails for $39.99 on the PC.  Those who want to try it out can download a 30-day free trial as well.

The software works by allowing users to rip any DVD onto a local or portable hard drive.

When they do this, the DVD they rip will retain the same DRM encrypted format.

Consumers will now be able to keep their entire DVD library on a hard drive, without the worry of having to run into any legal issues.

Real Networks has stated that users can only do this if they own a DVD.  Many though will likely use it on a rented or borrwed DVD.
