New Feature For Conficker Computer Virus Causes Alarm

March 9, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – A new component to the computer super-virus Conficker has been discovered, which works more aggressively to disable anti-virus software.

The variant, called W32.Downadup.C, is an additional element to computers that have already been infected with Conficker, and so vulnerable to the update. It works as a Trojan, hiding within the system and turning off all blocks against viruses within the system.

“Think of it as an updated module that’s more aggressive, more robust in defending itself,” Vincent Weafer, of Symantec Security Response, explained.
