Best Last Minute Deals Found Only on Twitter

July 12, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Business members of the social network site Twitter are increasingly using the service to advertise last minute specials and exclusive deals on services and products. And people not hooked into Twitter are losing out.

Online merchants are offering promotional discount codes and airlines and hotels are promoting time sensitive travel deals that go fast, such as cross-country flights for less than $20.

Most businesses now have established a presence on Twitter and are using targeted “tweets” to reach new customers. If you are not already following your favorite retailers and travel sites, typing in the word “deals” in Twitter’s “Find People” tool will get you started in finding the best deals on the Internet.

The search for deals will bring up hundreds of sites to weed through. You can go directly to the website first before deciding to follow the site.

A quick search brought up a result called ny_deals for example, which reports on up-to-the-minute freebies and cheap deals in the Big Apple.

Another site named tbotweetdeal, has over 2,000 followers and offers a host of deals from around the Internet.

As Twitter is still in the process of developing a verification process for registered users, avoid scams by only following known brands and names.

Please excuse the shameless self promotion but it was for exactly the reasons you mention that we started Twavel.

To avoid people following countless individual accounts Twavel consolidates the top travel deals on Twitter into a one page site, where visitors can rate the deals as they come in.

It’s not perfect yet, but if you want to see where we’re up to, visit

Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.
