Autistic Hacker: Harmless UFO Eccentric or Dangerous Genius?

August 2, 2009

(ChattahBox)— Will the real Gary McKinnon please stand up? Gary McKinnon, 42-year old British citizen, has many talents, not the least of which are genius level abilities to hack into virtually impenetrable U.S. government computers to search for evidence of extra terrestrial technology under the code name, “Solo.”

His family say he is a harmless computer genius who suffers from a form of autism. The U.S. government views him as a dangerous threat to national security.

Both descriptions of McKinnon may be the truth. The United States claims McKinnon perpetrated the “biggest military computer hack of all time.” U.S. officials claim McKinnon hacked into 97 computers of NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense and other military branches, soon after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The U.S. officials say that McKinnon caused untold damage to military computers, by deleting critical files, rendering scores of military computers inoperable for 24 hours during a critical time after the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

McKinnon denies causing damage, but does admit to leaving a threatening message, “US foreign policy is akin to government-sponsored terrorism these days? It was not a mistake that there was a huge security stand-down on September 11 last year…I am SOLO. I will continue to disrupt at the highest levels.”

McKinnon admitted to hacking into the computers, but claims he didn’t mean to cause any harm. He says he was searching for evidence of alien technology that could serve as the basis for a new environmentally friendly energy source. Specifically, McKinnon said he was searching for evidence that “secretive parts of the American government intelligence agencies did have access to crashed extra terrestrial technology.”

His mom, Janis Sharp is asking President Obama for his help in her son’s case saying, “I think Obama probably doesn’t know about it, and he’s got so many things to consider, but I’m really desperately trying to get through to Obama, because this is from the Bush era.”

McKinnon’s family and supporters say the type of autism he has, known as, Asperger’s syndrome could present the real risk of psychosis or suicide, if McKinnon is extradited to the U.S. for trial. But on Friday, McKinnon’ lost his court battle to be tried in Britain, and may soon to be transported to the U.S. to face the charges against him.

McKinnon faces eight counts of computer fraud, which each carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.

His case has captured the attention of celebrities, including and rock and roller Chrissie Hynde of the Prentenders, who recorded the Crosby, Stills and Nash song “Chicago” to help fund McKinnon’s case. A group called Free Gary has sprung up in the UK, supporting McKinnon’s efforts to fight extradition to the U.S.

His supporters claim he is an eccentric UFO enthusiast, who did the U.S. a favor by exposing security flaws in military computer systems. Whatever the case may be, the U.S. is determined to see that McKinnon be held accountable for his crimes.

A computer genus…right. . He certainly did not have to contend with any real security. He log on using a rudimentary password hacking program and he used a modem. The people who put America into danger were the people who designed the security around this important data. If anything he did a service showing the world how easy it was to hack in. There are embarrassed because it was so easy and they are taking the failures out on him to cover their own butts.

“virtually impenetrable U.S. government computers” – Computers that still have the generic MS password…Your kidding, right?

First, there never was one bit of computer damage. They have to say that to justify the charges. Second, any idiot could see what he was really doing, looking for proof of little green men.

This guy was and will never be a threat to US national security. The US government (my government) just wants to spank this poor bast*** in public because he showed what idiots we are. If the US continues to follow through with this case, it will only show how small and sad we are as a country. Please don’t waste my tax dollars!

It is one thing to hack and snoop. Gary hacked and purposely deleted files and wreaked havoc on networks. He is a criminal and must be brought to justice.

Gary’s lawyers have been playing him as a nerdy kid. Well, let this be a lesson to all the nerds out there that think they can hack and never get caught. I hope Gary gets thrown in prison for a long time and they continue to go after hackers who are evil.

Gary’s crime is no different than looking for ways to break into stores and shops. Once he breaks in, he completely ransacks the store. Is this a harmless eccentric?

Answer: No. Gary is a criminal. He must be brought to justice.

I have a few things in common with Gary McKinnon: I’m on the Autistic spectrum, literate in ufology, and prodigious computer ability runs in my family. My cousin who makes an excellent living in software design hacked the pentagon in the earliest days of personal computing. Also similarly, he exposed security flaws but for some reason drew the angriest of reactions from the US government. I’ll possibly get everybody in touch, if I can.

He’s no genius… with blank administrator passwords and a dailup modem any ametaur 15 yr old hacker could have pulled of what he did… why is the media not looking at the real fact here.:

Many in the UK are now questioning the real motives why the US government is applying extraordinary pressure on this case – considering the defendant is a non-violent amateur hacker with aspergers syndrome.

Mr Mc Kinnon claims he hacked into NASA’s computers searching for Ufo evidence. If you have doubts about Mr Kinnon’s claims you can be assured that they can be backed up as the US prosecution confirms he did indeed hack into the NASA Johnson Space centre (if you have watched our videos you will know that this is the exact location of ‘building 8’ – the long known NASA airbrushing department). His story is no fabrication using Ufos as an excuse for hacking!- Also if you have been following this site I’m sure you are aware of the overwhelming number videos now which support Garys claims of a clandestine UFO cover up at NASA.

The Us government claims he made over $700000 dollars worth damage to their computers but when you consider he just remotely logged into these computers using blank administrator passwords there’s no way this damage bill could have been racked up. (Apparently this high damage bill was needed to have support grounds for his extradition)

I find it appalling that the UK government are condemning the Chinese government for executing the ‘bi-polar’ Amir Shaikr under their own laws, but are rebuking the appeals to prevent an autistic citizens who is in their own country from being extradited after which he could face the death sentence. What hypocrites.

The whole attitude of the US government in this case bewilders me, besides: surely if an autistic bloke can hack into their high security computers from halfway across the world and hasn’t used any of the information to cripple American society, they should be acknowledging that he has brought to their attention a serious lapse in security and be damn grateful that it wasn’t terrorists that got hold of the information before they realised how useless their system is.
