Gmail Now Edges Out AOL For Third Most Popular Email Service

August 16, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – Google is moving on up once again, with Gmail taking the number three spot in popular mail services.

AOL formerly held onto the number three spot, with their email server taking on a healthy percentage of the Internet’s email traffic.

But last month Gmail managed to rocket past them with a 25% rating in unique users, while AOL remained at 22%, showing that AOL’s seems to be falling off of their last leg.

Hotmail still holds the number two spot, and Yahoo is king at number one.

While this shows that Gmail is becoming more and more popular, it also seems to say something about AOL.

AOL used to be the dominant force in Internet technology. Their disks were sent to everyone on a nearly daily basis, to a point where kids were throwing start-up packages instead of frisbees at the park.

But then that power dimmed as dial-up went out of style, and their email has been their only real stable form of customers, in many ways.

So does this mean that AOL is losing their last battle? Only time will tell, but in the near future we may never again hear the words ‘You’ve got mail!’
