Get Ready For Video Ads in your Favorite Magazines

August 20, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Here’s a cool technology idea, that’s going to probably get old real fast, mostly because it’s going to be used to sell products.  Full-motion picture video ads are coming to magazines, which will remind fans of the fantasy newspaper “The Daily Prophet” in the Harry Potter films.  Next month the talking ads built into the page via a wafer-thin video screen will appear in Entertainment Weekly thanks to  a marketing experiment, which is being conducted by CBS and Pepsi.

The ads in Entertainment Weekly will appear in copies of the Time Warner magazine sent to subscribers in the New York and Los Angeles areas, and will feature characters from several Monday night offerings on CBS, as well as a video promoting a Pepsi diet cola for men. The video will play on a screen about the size of those found on mobile telephones.  While no exact figures for the ads have been announced, the cost is estimated at several dollars per copy, while a full-page color ad in Entertainment Weekly costs about 9 cents a page per copy.
