Ban On Microsoft Word Put On Hold After Appeal Granted

September 4, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – You may recall a recent story about a small Canadian company taking Microsoft down a notch by taking them to court over Word. Today, it was announced that the ban had been blocked, pending an appeal.

Microsoft will now get the chance to argue the decision in court on September 23.

“We are happy with the result and look forward to presenting our arguments on the main issues on September 23,” Microsoft spokesman, Kevin Kutz, was quoted by the BBC.

The original ban had prohibited sales of Word that ran the formatting language XML, specifically the 2003 and 2005. The move would have cost Microsoft billions, and may still.  Meanwhile the stay of the injunction means Microsoft can continue shipping Word pending appeal.

don’t get me wrong; I like to bash big corporations as much as the next guy, but I found myself pulling for Microsoft on this one.
