Windows 7 Only Blocks 2 Out Of 10 Viruses, Website Claims

November 5, 2009

U.S. (ChattahBox) – Windows 7 is officially out on the market, and there have been mixed reviews from users. However, one man decided to run some tests, and he found that it’s ability to protect itself from malware is less than satisfactory.

Chester Wisniewski of Sophos.com updated his blog with a review of Windows 7.

He claims that he took a computer with a totally clean system, and installed a full version of the new operating system to test Microsoft’s advertising, which states it is safe against the latest viruses.

The results were slightly depressing, with only two of eight failing to run. The other eight managed to load themselves, run successfully, and all without leaving a dent in security. They managed to slip right through.

All of this was done using the default settings for User Account Control (UAC), so they aren’tt hat surprising. All it really means is that a powerful anti-virus software will still be needed to protect your PC, and that the standard security is really nothing to write home about.
