Gizmodo Blogger’s Equipment Seized In iPhone Case

April 27, 2010

(ChattahBox) – The Gizmodo blogger who leaked details about the new generation iPhone has had his computers and other equipment seized by a task force working from several crime fighting agencies.

We all know the story by now: Apple engineer Gray Powell is drinking in a pub. He has a few too many and leaves what appears to be an iPhone 3GS on a table. Another unknown customer picks it up and realized that it is actually a prototype for the next generation iPhone disguised to look like the current model. Gizmodo gets word, pays the finder $5,000, and posts the deets online.

But police are now saying that Jason Chen, the blog’s editor and writer, committed a felony.

A task force from various agencies have searched his home and taken various equipment and financial records.

Gawker Media, owners of Gizmodo, have said that California law protecting journalists and their sources should extend into this case.

Bottom line: Don’t mess with Steve Jobs.
