The Maryland Zoo has to do a very difficult thing this past weekend, saying goodbye to their 22-year old giraffe named Gretchen. .Delaware (ChattahBox) – The Maryland Zoo has to do a very difficult thing this past weekend, saying goodbye to their 22-year old giraffe named Gretchen.

The 22-year old giraffe was seen by many staff members on Friday before she had to be laid to rest on Saturday morning.

The staff ruled that they had to euthanize the giraffe due to the fact that she was in immense pain due to suffering from arthritis.

Gretchen the giraffe had to be laid to rest on Saturday morning at around 9 a.m.

The president and chief executive of the Maryland Zoo, Don Hutchinson put out a statement saying “Gretchen will be missed by all of us.”
