According to a memo from the counsel to Gov. David Paterson, New York state will recognize gay marriages.New York (ChattahBox) – According to a memo from the counsel to Gov. David Paterson, New York state will recognize gay marriages.

Any gay marriage that is legally performed in other states such as Massachusetts or California will be recognized in the state of New York.

With this new recognition of gay marriages, all health insurance companies etc. must also recognize them.

Though same-sex marriages are not legal on New York, they will be recognized as long as they are legally wed outside of the state.

The state Legislature may still decide to stop the recognition of same-sex marriages.

Until they do this though, as of right now they will be recognized.
