The bill presented would put a halt to a 10.6% cut in Medicare payments for doctors which will go into effect on July 1, 2008.

The fear is that once these new cuts go into effect, doctors are going to be far more likely to refuse taking patients with Medicare due to low payments for treatment.

Baucus has stated he will put forth the bill again before the cuts go into effect, even though President Bush has threatened to veto the bill if it is passed.
