Researchers have revealed that if you measure by gallons per mile instead of miles per gallon, it can help you save money at the pump.<br /> .New York (ChattahBox) – Researchers have revealed that if you measure by gallons per mile instead of miles per gallon, it can help you save money at the pump.

Gas prices are at an all time high in the U.S. above $4 per gallon, but the problem is not every family is in a position to buy a car that is fuel efficient.

Researchers Richard Larrick and Jack Soll have released a paper in the journal Science called The MPG Illusion to help those understand how to save money.

It is not about the miles per gallon, but instead the gallons per mile that will help people understand how much they spend at the pump on a yearly basis.

They stated that even just by improving the fuel efficiency of a car by 2 miles per gallon can come out to major cash savings.

The two researchers are from the Duke University Fuqua School of Business.
