Obama girls Sasha and Malia to ‘keep it real’ in the White House

December 2, 2008

Washington (ChattahBox) — President-elect Barack Obama and wife Michelle are determined to keep their daughters as normal and grounded as possible.

The President-elect has already promised that the girls will continue the chores they’re already doing once they moved in to the White House, which has plenty of staff and helpers to pamper.

Malia, age 10, and Sasha, age 7, will be responsible for cleaning their own rooms, making their beds, and will even have to “scoop the poop” that their new puppy will leave behind. No news on the first family dog yet. Bu the President-elect ruled out a suggestion by Barbara Walters that that they should follow her example and choose a Havanese. The President-elect grimaced and said that it sounded like a “little yappy dog”. He said they would choose “a big, rambunctious dog of some sort”.

The White House’s domestic staff has already been informed not to carry out any chores that the Obamas want their girls to do. This is a huge difference from the previous child occupants, the Bush twins, who were described by White House staff as “all noblesse and no oblige.”

The girls already have their bedrooms assigned. They’ll get the same ones that the Bush twins occupied.

Michelle Obama told Barbara Walters during an interview, “That was the first thing I said to some of the staff when I did my visit. I said, ‘You know, we’re going to have to set up some boundaries’.”

Barack even mentioned that Malia had chosen a special room to do her homework in.

After a visit to the White House, Malia told her dad that she planned to do her homework at the desk in the Lincoln bedroom because “I’m thinking that will inspire big thoughts”. That would be a nice change!
