Lawsuit To Remove ‘So Help Me God’ Thrown Out

January 17, 2009

Washington D.C. (ChattahBox) – A group of Atheists filed a federal lawsuit last week, hoping to bar Obama from adding the unofficial line ‘so help me God’ to his inaugural speech on Tuesday.

The 2009 inaugural address is not the first that has brought on such a measure, as protests over the years have taken a louder voice, with Atheists and Agnostics seeking to remove religious appellations from matters of government.

Michael Newdow (shown left), the man behind the lawsuit, has brought similar challenges against President George W. Bush, fighting against the phrase at each of his inaugurations, but to no avail.

Arguments were heard Thursday, and the lawsuit was promptly thrown out.

According to the Constitution, the words to be spoken in an official inauguration for the presidency are:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

I couldn’t agree more with the idea of removing those words, or any nod to a supernatural deity, from any presidential speach. The government of this nation was not built on Christianity, regardless of what some may assume. Our forefathers, in establishing a form of government and drafting the constitution, maintained the separation of church and state regardless of personal religious belief. This is a must!

Furthermore, I feel that it’s high time huge “non-profit” Christian ministries (Oral Robers, Joel Osteen, et al.) should finally start paying taxes on the Billions of dollars annually that the government turns a blind eye too. A tax exempt community church is one thing, but a church raking in hundreds of millions of dollars each year need to pay. These people are sucking the hard earned cash out of the pockets of millions of gullible Americans! It’s outright fraud, and it is disgusting. For cyring out loud, they have to get their shows on TV in the guise of an INFOMERCIAL people! Think about it!

Religion is the enemy. Delusional men lead gullible and delusional congregations.
