Dad gets 16 years for using dog shock collar on kids

Ohio (ChattahBox) -– An Ohio man David Liskany, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for his disciplinary techniques, which were more like torture tactics.

The man was accused of punishing 3 of 4 of his children, 13, 11 and four at the time of the abuse by putting them in cold showers, holding them underwater and using the shock collar, which is commonly used to train dogs and spraying water up their noses. The abuse allegations came to the attention of investigators at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office after Liskany’s 13-year-old son, the oldest of four, ran away from home Dec. 11, 2007 apparently after a confrontation with his father over grades at school, police said.  The boy walked more than 15 miles to the home of a relative seeking refuge from his father, investigators said.

Liskany, 39, was sentenced to six years each for two counts of second-degree felonious assault and to four years for one count of third-degree attempted felonious assault.

Liskany pleaded not guilty in January 2008 to 10 felony counts of child endangering and remained free after having posted $25,000 cash bond in Xenia Municipal Court.

After a deal with prosecutors, Liskany pleaded guilty in October to the charges for which he was sentenced Friday.

In court Friday, Greene County Common Pleas Judge J. Timothy Campbell compared the punishments to torture  “like something from Guantanamo Bay.”

On his own behalf, Liskany told Campbell, “I just want the opportunity to try and be a father. That’s what I was trying to do, be a loving father.”
