Former US Soldier Convicted In Iraqi Rape/Murder

May 10, 2009

Kentucky (ChattahBox) – A former US soldier has been convicted of the rape of a 14-year old Iraqi girl, as well as the murder of her and her family.

Steven Green was one of five who was convicted for the 2006 rape and murder of Abeer Oassim al-Janabi, as well as her mother, father, and younger sister. The five soldiers are reported to have taken turns holding the girl down and raping her, before committing the murders, then setting the house on fire to cover the crime.

Green was discharged from the military for an unknown ‘personality disorder’ before anyone knew about what he had done, but he and the other four charged in the case have all been convicted for their various roles.

Most are serving multiple life sentences, but Green may be facing the death penalty for his leading roll in the case.

Sentencing is scheduled to be issued Monday.
