Senator Schumer Wants to Put Scam Artist Robocallers out of Business

May 11, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Senator Chuck Schumer wants to team up with the Federal Trade Commission to put a stop to those “scam artist” robocallers, who have been violating Do Not Call Lists, with a sales pitch for extended car warranties. The particular “car warranty” company made a big mistake calling Senator Schumer. Senator Schumer was a big proponent of the Do Not Call List, enacted to protect consumers from constant telemarketing calls.

Thousands of people around the country have been receiving annoying bogus car warranty robocalls on their cell phones lately, including this author. Senator Schumer says the robocallers are not only violating the Do Not Call List, but are also peddling fraudulent car warranties.

The Better Business Bureau has received 140,000 complaints about the car warranty robocalls, all across the country. The sales pitch gives the distinct impression a consumer’s automobile warranty is about to expire. However, that’s not the case. The companies are trying to sell consumers their own extended car warranties.

“The Federal Trade Commission needs to seek these people out and shut them down,” said Schumer.

Senator Schumer is calling on his New York constituents to file complaints with the FTC whenever they receive the car warranty robocalls, to build a case against the scamming companies.

I’ve gotten calls regarding this so many times in the last few months, both on my cellular phone and even on one of my attorney’s phone lines at the office – it is getting to the point where innocent individual consumers aren’t members getting attacked by these scam artists, but major Law firms and companies have to be bothered by this nonsense. It isn’t right and it certainly IS a big scam. Someone needs to put these guys in jail for violating the Do Not Call List Policy. Government is made by man to protect man and oversee such scams and to bring them to an end swiftly. I’ve been getting these calls for way too long and I’m sick and tired of it. I hope Senator Shumer has success bringing these miscreants down.

I have every intention of finding out who the people behind these calls are, going to their offices, and using a 12-gauge shotgun with buckshot to turn them all into hamburger.

There’s a reason I’m on the Do Not Call list; I’m a dangerous and heavily-armed psychopath. They should never, ever have called me.
