Rare Michelangelo Painting Turns The Art World Upside-Down

May 14, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – A painting that was long since thought to be a potential fake has been authenticated as a work by famed artist Michelangelo, and will become the first of it’s kind to be housed in an American museum.

‘The Torment of Saint Anthony’ was long since considered a beautiful, but still inauthentic, fake. But after extensive research, an art dealer bought it for almost $2 million dollars at auction, and brought it back to the US for renovation.

“This is one of the greatest rediscoveries in the history of art,” museum director Eric Lee excitedly told reporters with the UK based paper The Telegraph.

The piece is thought to have been painted by Michelangelo at the tender age of 12, and is one of only four known pieces.

It will be housed in the Kimball Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas.
