Ruling Forces Parents To Allow Chemo For Their Son

May 15, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – In a decision that shows sometimes the system does work in favor of the people, a family has been ordered to allow their eight year old son to undergo chemotherapy for cancer.

Daniel Hauser’s family are members of a religious group known as the Nemenhah Band, a group founded in the early 1990’s dedicated to lumping together various Native American healing rituals in place to medicine.

Daniel’s mother, Colleen, says that her son is a medicine man and elder within the Nemenhah, and that it is through alternative remedies that his Hodgkin’s Lymphoma will be healed, just as the founder, Philip Cloudpiler Landis, claims his own was.

“My son is not in any medical danger at this point,” Mrs. Hauser told the court, a strange statement consider her son has a fatal, cancerous tumor currently continuing to grow within his chest.

Daniel underwent one course of chemotherapy when the cancer was first discovered, and the tumor shrank, but grew back to larger then before after his parents pulled him from the treatment.

They have been ‘healing’ him through herbs, dietary changes, and saunas.

The official ruling is that the Hausers must get Daniel a chest X-Ray. If the cancer has progressed far enough during this time they had him out of treatment that chemo would not save him, they may more or less let him die without it. If he has any chance of survival for any amount of time, they will have a few days to choose an oncologist, or else he and their other 7 children will be removed from their custody.
