EMT Posts Photo of Strangled Woman on Facebook

(ChattahBox)—An emergency medical technician from Staten Island, New York answered a call to a woman’s apartment who had been strangled to death with the cord from her hair dryer.

When 46-year old EMT, Mark Musarella, arrived on the scene he allegedly snapped a photo of the dead woman’s body and later uploaded it to his Facebook page.

Her parents Ronald and Marty Wimmer discovered the murder victim, 26-year-old Caroline Wimmer, on March 30, when they became concerned after not hearing from their daughter for two days. The police believe she was murdered on March 28 or 29.

Various police officers and EMTs appeared at the crime scene after a call from Caroline’s distraught parents, finding their daughter’s body in the bathroom with a hair dryer cord around her neck.

EMT Mark Musarella allegedly photographed Caroline’s dead body with the hairdryer cord still tightly wound around her neck. Snapping photos of dead crime victims doesn’t appear to be part of Musarella’s job description.

Musarella, perhaps overly impressed with his “cell phone” photographic skills uploaded the photo of Caroline Wimmer’s dead body on his Facebook page. It’s not clear how long the photo of a murdered woman remained on his Facebook page, but Musarella was fired on May 14, after his employers, Richmond University Medical Center, learned of the Facebook photo.

Caroline Wimmer’s parents, still grieving from the loss of their daughter, were horrified to learn a photo of her daughter’s dead body was posted on Facebook by an EMT. The Staten Island District Attorney’s office is investigating into the posting of the photo.

Ironically, Facebook also played a role in Caroline Wimmer’s murder. Police say 28-year-old Calvin Lawson, an ex con, allegedly murdered Caroline, because he was enraged she had spread rumors about him on Facebook, telling his girlfriend he was a cheat.

Lawson was apprehended at a homeless shelter and is being held in jail without bail, after confessing to strangling Caroline Wimmer.
