Sarah Palin to Resign as Alaska Governor Effective July 26

July 3, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) announced this afternoon she will resign from office effective July 26 and return to private life. Palin, who surprised the US political world last year by becoming Republican John McCain’s vice presidential running mate, is considered one of the front-runners for the GOP nomination in 2012. Palin said she was transferring authority to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who will be sworn in at the Governor’s Picnic on July 26. In a statement from her home, Palin indicated the reason for her decision was: “Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional lame duck status in this particular climate would just be another dose of politics as usual, something I campaigned against and will always oppose.”

A Republican source close to her political team gave some insight as to what Palin might be thinking telling CNN’s John King that it was a “calculation” she made that “it was time to move on.” The governor’s “book deal and other issues” were “causing a lot of friction” in her home state, the source said, adding that he believes she is “mapping out a path to 2012.”

Well if quitting office, during your first term as governor with a year and a half still to serve is her strategy for running for president, I say good luck with that.

Note, the website is in danger of crashing due to the flood of readers and supporters signing up to show their interest in a Palin Candidacy. The GOP establishment had better watch out, Sarah Palin and Ron Paul combined with the power of the internet will remove the stranglehold of GOP special interests and the elites who have brought the party to its knees in defeat in the 2008 elections.
