Historical Items Nowhere To Be Found, National Archives Admit

July 5, 2009

National ArchivesUS (ChattahBox) – The National Archives, where anyone can go to see various historical American items that are stored there for safe keeping, may be surprised to find that the various pieces are not as safe as we had thought. In fact, many are missing.

Items such as maps of the bomb drops on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, documents from the Civil War, portraits of several presidents, and even a harddrive containing sensitive information, much of it Top Secret, from the Clinton years have been stolen.

The apparent thefts have occurred through most of the years that the National Archive has been opened, with researcher, employees, and even members of the public and military stealing important items in American history.

“When I came here nine years ago, there was no acknowledgment that we had a problem,” the Huffington Post post quoted an interview from the Associated Press with Paul Brachfeld, who has been hired to lead a team to recover these lost items.

There is no way to know just what has been lost over the years, especially when it comes to taking stock of the literally billions of documents housed in the National Archive.
