Man Killed in NC Likely the Serial Killer That Terrorized SC town

July 7, 2009

(ChattahBox) — It looks as though Carolina law enforcement have gotten the man that terrorized Cherokee County, SC killing five people in three incidents over six days. Yesterday Gaston County, N.C., police shot and killed a man, who they said opened fire on them Monday morning. It turns out the man identified as Patrick Burris, 41, was a recently paroled convict with a criminal record more than 25 pages. Investigators found an older model champagne-colored Ford Explorer outside the house in Gaston County, which matched the vehicle used by the suspected serial killer.  Ballistics tests showed his gun matched the one used in the killing of the six residents in and around Gaffney according to State Law Enforcement Division Chief Reggie Lloyd.

That long page rap sheet included convictions for crimes such as armed robbery, common law robbery, weapons violation, forgeries, multiple instances of breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods. Burris was just recently paroled from a North Carolina prison after serving nearly eight years for felony breaking and entering and larceny.

“Look at this,” State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Chief Reggie Lloyd told a news conference, waving a copy of Burris’ criminal record. “This is like 25 pages. At some point the criminal justice system is going to need to explain why this suspect was out on the street.”

In the end Burris was killed in the process of allegedly committing a crime he was well known for. Gaston County police (about 33 miles north of Cherokee County, S.C.) received a call early Monday morning about an alleged burglary in progress, and they found three people, including Burris whom they learned had an outstanding warrant. When officers tried to serve the warrant, Burris pulled a gun and fired at officers. Officers returned fire killing the suspect. One officer was shot in the leg and has been treated and released from a hospital, police said. At the time Gaston County police said the other two people a man and a woman were in custody, but didn’t indicate whether they were facing any charges.

Whatever the killers reason for killing these people, doesn’t give him the right to take other people’s lives. The killer needs a very big help and he needs to face in court and accept whatever his punishments are. What he did is not a joke, he killed 5 persons already. Now that he is dead, i think the victims get their justice.
