Man Who Killed Cop Had 100 Explosives In Mobile Home

July 15, 2009

Texas (ChattahBox) – A man who killed a Texas deputy in his mobile home, then killed himself after a 9 ½ hour standoff with police, had over 100 explosive devices in his trailer.

Some of the bombs found in the trailer of cop-killer Gilbert Ortez Jr., who shot Deputy Shane Detwiler twice in the head, were booby trapped to go off.

There were gas grenades, tear gas devices, and pipe bombs, equally up to enough force to launch a heavily armed attack. Police are not saying why they believe Ortez may have had the explosives, of what he may have planned to do with them.

Other items that were found in the home were Nazi-related paraphernalia, such as racist literature and swastikas.

Investigators are still looking into the incident, and the family is asking for a second investigation into Ortez’s suicide. Police deny any wrongdoing.
