Palin Abused Her Power for Private Gain: New Ethics Charge

July 22, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Governor Sarah Palin has been charged with yet another ethics complaint, as she prepares to leave office at the end of the month. An independent investigator for the Alaska state Personnel Board, found sufficient evidence to find that Palin abused her official position for personal gain, by creating a trust to solicit money to pay off her legal bills.

State investigator, Thomas Daniel made an official finding on July 14, of probable cause to believe Palin used or attempted to use her official position for personal gain to receive improper gifts.

Daniel wrote, “An ordinary citizen facing legal charges is not likely to be able to generate donations to a legal defense fund.”

“In contrast, Governor Palin is able to generate donations because of the fact that she is a public official and a public figure. Were it not for the fact that she is governor and a national political figure, it is unlikely that many citizens would donate money to her legal defense fund,” added Daniel.

Eagle River resident Kim Chatman filed the ethics complaint, after the fund was created. Palin claims she owes more than $500,000 in legal fees, because of the numerous ethics complaints filed against her and that she is leaving office because of the complaints.

Friends and supporters set up the Alaska Fund Trust and the funds in the trust are now frozen, until the ethics complaint is resolved.

The fund was created by John Coale, a Washington Lawyer and husband to Fox News Channel’s Greta Van Susteren, who is thought to also help run Sarah PAC, which raised nearly $733,000 in its first five months.

It’s likely Palin will emerge from the latest ethics complaint without a formal reprimand. The report recommends that Palin refuse to accept payment from the defense fund, and the complaint would be resolved without a formal hearing.

John Coale referred to the investigator’s report finding probable cause that Palin abused her power, as “crazy.” “Anybody can keep filing ethics complaints and drive someone out of office even if you’re a nut,” said Coale.

At least 19 ethics complaints have been filed against Palin, with many dismissed, except for two and now this latest one, which made an official finding of wrongdoing. As a result of the so called “troopergate investigation,” Alaska prosecutor Steven Branchflower found that Palin unlawfully abused her power in that instance as well.

“Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda, to wit: to get Trooper Michael Wooten fired,” wrote Branchflower.

It was also determined that Palin improperly billed the state for her children’s travel expenses. She reached a settlement, where she agreed to reimburse the state for the expenses of about $7,000.

Meanwhile, Palin posted on her Twitter account that the “matter is still pending.”

Totally misleading report…thanks for revealing your liberal bias
    1) No “official” finding has been found on the legal defense fund…the report by Daniel was preliminary and was leaked ..never meant for public consumption..(which in itself is a violation of state laws) before any official charges or conclusions were reached or communciated by the Alaska Govt Personnel board
    2) The Branchflower democratic committee led findings on Wooten were later rebutted and dismissed by the official state investigative body (Alaska Personnel board) ..so nothing ever came of that smear attempt.

In order for Palin to be found guilty of violating the ethics act of Alaska (that she hereslf helped define and pass)…they would have to prove that there was personal gain in exchange for politica favors or benefit to private parties from state owned resources..ie, “pay to play” schemes. Good luck trying to prove that from a fund were no money was ever withdrawn and whose donors were capped at $150 per donation and not allowed to be state contractors or others that could benefit in “pay to play”

Pls stop with repeating and publishing Palin smear attempts by the left…it;s really sooo yesterday

Hillary Clinton will have to be charged too: Were it not for the fact that she is a national political figure, it is unlikely that many citizens would donate money to pay off her campaign debts.

This charge against Palin is even sillier than the others have been. I will bet a million to one that the “independent investigator” voted for Obama.

Back in September 2008, we saw her wagging her finger that Hillary Clinton, that Hillary should not whine about tough media coverage, she was not doing women any good, she should just plow through it, she should have known what she was getting into and should just try harder and prove herself. “WOW”, I guess she loves measuring others by standards that she does not follow. What a hypocrite, but expected from most political false prophets types. Now we see that she attempted used her official position for personal gain, this is too sweet. Thank you Sarah, great job.

Strange bedfellows – Sarah Palin and scientologist John Coale, Greta Van Susteren’s (Fox News) lawyer husband advised Palin to start her legal legal defense fund . Whats up with that?

Palin and her family are nothing but grifters. Most of the donations (60% or more) are small amount from middle class folks who believe in her. She is taking advantage of those whom she claims to epitomize. They will take from the rich and poor alike and then claim it is a gift from God.
I thank that Lord that our prayers were answered, and we were delivered from “false prophets who preach doom and hatred!”
