Black Market Kidney Mafia Preys on Poor, Desperate

July 26, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Last week’s arrest of a Brooklyn, NY rabbi for illegal organ trafficking, brought to light the disturbing international black market for human organs, particularly kidneys. There are millions of dollars to be made by the brokers, doctors and other middleman, while the human donors are recruited from the world’s poorest nations, and are paid a pittance.

The New York Daily News published an in depth piece on Sunday, detailing the tangled web of the underground kidney market. The international network for illegal kidneys begins in the poorest countries of the world, such as India, Moldovia, Romania and China, where predatory organ hunters recruit poor donors with a kidney to spare.

Organ donors are paid as little as $1,000 for their kidneys, up to a top price of $10,000, while wealthy recipients pay as much as $180,000 for the life-saving kidneys. Each illegal transaction involves at least three countries, including the donors’ country, the country of the recipient and the country where the operation takes place.

Rabbi Levy Rosenbaum, the kidney broker arrested on Thursday, told undercover investigators that he has been in the black market organ business for 10 years. Although most of the kidney transplants are performed in overseas hospitals, Rosenbaum also arranged for the procedures to be performed in U.S. hospitals.

Rosenbaum’s criminal enterprise is centered in Israel, where many of the transplants doctors are found in a major medical center outside of Tel Aviv. Rosenbaum’s enterprise used money from fraudulent charities to pay the doctors to perform the transplant operations, in hospitals all over the world.

Rosenbaum told the undercover agent, posing as a buyer of a black market kidney for his uncle, that the fee of “$160,000, would cover a suitable kidney donor in Israel, including blood samples to insure a match, payment to the donor, and travel expenses to get the donor to the U.S.”

Rosenbaum was arrested as part of a massive New Jersey corruption sweep involving, bribery and money laundering, which netted 44 people, including mayors, other public officials and rabbis.

It is appalling to see that people that we were taught to respect are some of the most disrespectful and atrocious creatures that can be found anywhere on earth. Personally what I have been seeing from these hypocrites has turned my mind from all religions. “Do as I say and not as I do for what I have done and what I am about to do will leave you stunned for many years”. One Rabbi brain for sale suitable for dog food, already canned.
