Miss. Police Begin Using ‘Wheel Of Justice’ To Make Arrests

July 30, 2009

Mississippi (ChattahBox) – Police in Picayune have come up with a controversial way of arresting those with active warrants. Rather than going by priority of the charges, they have decided to leave it up to fate.

The police force has created a wheel, where they put the names of eight new suspects every week, and take a spin. Whoever the arrow lands on winds up in the slammer.

RAW quoted the Sun-Herald:

“Narcotics officers will determine which drug suspects to put in the running and they likely won’t feature the same eight offenders from week to week. Ervin said Picayune police’s drug arrests aren’t limited to those Tuesdays when they spin the wheel.

The hope is that the “Wheel of Justice” causes citizens to take note of drug activity so they will call in tips to officers.”

The measure has already sparked controversy all over the country, with many outraged by what they see as the glib and random nature of the wheel.
