Freed Reporters Arrive in US as Details Emerge on How Bill Clinton Got Involved (Video)

August 5, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Former President Bill Clinton accompanied Laura Ling and Euna Lee arrived back in the United States Wednesday, less than 24 hours after the journalists were pardoned and released from a North Korean prison by leader Kim Jong Il. According to senior Obama administration (via CNN) the scoop is apparently Kim Jong Il was eager to be seen with former president Bill Clinton (or perhaps anybody of substance) that created a deal to let them go free. The journalists told their relatives In a phone call, that they had been informed by their North Korean captures, that they would be released if an envoy like former President Clinton would come to Pyongyang.  Clinton spoke with National Security Adviser Gen. Jim Jones, and agreed to go on the mission, but made it clear with all involved that this was purely a humanitarian effort.
The video below was shot moments after their jet landed in Burbank, California, Ling addressed the crowd saying, “the past 140 days have been the most difficult heart-wrenching times of our lives.”

“Euna and I would like to express our deepest gratitude towards Bill Clinton … to our loved ones, friends, colleagues, and to the complete strangers with the kindness of hearts who showed up so much love and sent u so many positive thought and energy,” a tearful Ling said. “We could feel your love all the way in the North Korea — it’s what kept us going.”
