Violent Right-Wing Town Hall Mob: Linked With Group Promoted by Glenn Beck

August 7, 2009

(ChattahBox)—An angry mob of near-rioting right-wing protesters overwhelmed a Tampa, Florida Democratic town hall Thursday night organized to discuss health reform, requiring dozens of police officers to control the unruly crowd. Many of the protesters were members of a right-wing Conservative activist group, called Tampa 912 that’s promoted by Conservative Fox News host Glenn Beck.

Other members of the right-wing mob were encouraged to protest the town hall by an email blast sent out by the Hillsborough Republican party, which provided the right-wing protesters with “talking points” to challenge health reform supporters. The result was over one thousand angry protesters showing up ready for a fight and armed with racist signs of President Obama, for a town hall event in a room that would only hold about 250 people.

Violent scuffles broke out in the angry crowd outside and inside the town hall event.

When the doors to the town hall, attended by U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, (D) Fla., were shut after the room became filled well beyond its capacity, the angry protesters began pounding on the doors and windows, chanting in loud angry voices, “You work for us,” “Hear our voice,” “Why are you shutting the Doors?,” “We can’t hear You,” “It’s a Public Event,” “Open the Doors.” One man was seen whacking the closed door with his cane.

Inside was not any calmer. The angry protesters who made it inside, shouted down Rep. Castor as she tried to answer their questions shouting, “Tyranny! Tyranny! Tyranny!,” according to the St. Petersburg Times.

The right-wing protesters roundly booed Castor when she said; “There is more consensus than there is disagreement when you get right down to it.” The angry protesters then started shouting, “Tell the truth! Tell the truth!” “Read the bill!” “Forty-million illegals! Forty million illegals!”

Castor was nonplussed, noting the dire need for health reform in our country. “The insurance industry and … Republican activists are manufacturing a lot of these phony protests,” said Castor. State Democratic chairwoman Karen Thurman said, the angry mob of protesters were “…extreme ideologues, only interested in ‘breaking’ the president and thwarting the change Americans voted for last November.”

Some of the unruly protesters carried signs depicting President Obama as a Joker and a Socialist, with other signs against government run health care. As noted by Rep. Castor, many of these confused and angry protesters would have opposed Medicare and Social Security, as well.

There is no question the mobs of hooligans unleashed on Democratic town halls by Conservative groups are indeed angry about something. But are they really angry about health care reform, or is there a more deep seated fear at play here of racism and identity politics that erupted out of the birther movement?

Many of the right-wing protesters and tea party activists shout and carry signs stating they “want their country back.” What they really mean is they want it returned to a white president.

Paul Krugman penned an insightful piece in the New York Times on the emergence of the angry and hate filled right-wing mobs, comparing the phenomenon to old style Southern Republican politics that plays “…to the racial fears of working-class whites.” Krugman advises health care reform supporters to push back against a vocal minority fueled by racial fears, or risk losing the battle.

I guess we have here is the left not liking their own tactics used against them. This is not republican against democarts it is about big goverment period. It is additional governmental policies steping on the rights of the citizen. As to particalliy quote the Great Spock, LOL, Since when do the needs of the few surpass the rights of the many. These reps are OUR employees not we their subjects.

    Let vote on it

There are many that want their country back, but the numbers would suggest that the colors of America are changing. America will have more minorities populating this nation than white members of our society. This is a fact. It will happen well before 2050. This is what we are seeing in the current protests. This group of Americans is very unhappy with the future prospects of America and see Obama and health care for everyone as begining salvos’ in a war for their country back! This is the begining of the civil unrest that all nations face from time to time.

@ Eugene Zameda : Last time I looked, Dick Cheney, George Bush, and Rush Limbaugh and all his clones were Republicans. Cheney is the one who authorized (ordered, really) the illegal torture of prisoners of war. The Republican Administration came into office with a budget surplus, left by Bill Clinton, and left office with a National Debt of over ONE TRILLION DOLLARS. Thousands of young Americans were sent to die in a desert halfway around the world, and our National defenses stripped to the point that we couldn’t have turned back an invasion of chipmunks, much less a determined military force. All of that for the sake of ensuring huge windfall profits for the oil companies who own the Republican Party.

I think people who mismanage the nation at that level should be sent to Cuba – naked, unarmed, and penniless. Let’s vote on it.

Sue, whoever you are, please take another look at the video. The people being shoved around by the goon who then shuts the door on them are the anti-Obamacare protesters (ie., the people you are defaming as a “violent right wing mob”). Furthermore, the more you smear us, and the more we are shoved around, the madder we get. And Krugman saying we are just a bunch of racists, that’s positively Garofalian!

The American right wing extremists shall be made to regret the powers they have consolidated in the Executive Branch from 2000-2008. It is the Age of Information – managing the flow of (mis)information is how the right has amassed an army of malinformed angry citizens, and with the flow of information, they shall be defeated.

When and if violence erupts, their ringleaders and every participant will be arrested.
Their organizations will be bankrupted with lawsuits.
Their individual firearms rights will be forfeit when they are convicted of various felony conspiracy charges.

If they think they are too numerous to handle, they have not paid attention to the Drug War.

Right-wing media provocateurs and inciters cannot and shall not protect their manipulated minions from modern justice.

We shall see the rise and fall of more “Viper Militias”, we shall scour violent extremists from our midst, and make sure everyone knows whose political party they belong to and whose rhetoric propelled them. We will put them out of their odious business and we’ll do it all… 100%… within the law.

If you value your freedom and your liberties, you will not associate yourselves with those seeking to overthrow the elected US Government. There is no such thing as anonymity in the 21st century.

I was at the Tampa town hall site.
    1) There were no racist signs
    2) There were no scuffles outside
    3) The only scuffles started were by the union people inside who physically removed any one they didn’t like.
    4) We were not unruly…the cops didn’t have to do anything except ask us to leave when the meeting ended early because Castor didn’t have the stones to answer questions and scurried off like a spoiled brat who did not get her way.
    5) Whoever wrote this piece should be a fiction writer

By the way…we were not an organized attendance. I actually got up out of my chair and headed down after I saw on the news how Ezekial Emmanuel would decide who lived and who died once Obama gets done destroying the economy and heath insurance companies.
I went down as Frank Q Citizen, and for that, Nancy Pelosi calls me a Nazi…

Right Wing, bullshit the people rose up because they are pissed at Castor’s lack of stellar job performance she has been doing. Cap and Trade, Health Care and failing to support Hr 1207, out her in 2010!

In watching these driven people scream, rant and display signs of hatred. You have to step back and ask yourself WTF. Where were these people when we were invading a country who clearly did not have ties to terrorists and the only reason we knew they had WMD is because we had receipts, Remember the Rumsfeld, Hussein had shake well documented in photos. You cry about making your children pay for future health care but what will be the difference between the monies they already owe to pay for the war in Iraq? Should we put a cap on how long a person can be on Social Security? After all I have been paying for them and I’m somebody’s child! Will there be any left for me?
Sit down, shut up and listen! What to speak raise your hands. And for God’s sake stop listening the right blowhards and think for yourself. Obama is not running the country.
    You are!

This is all so upsetting to me as an American citizen. The media is owned by Coorperations. Folks at the top will lose billions if a public option passes. We will all benefit by lowered health care costs.

Why are the mobs so upset? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to take care of our people. Anyone who believes in Jesus would have to want to care for everyone. We are all Americans no matter our color. The Bush policies have left our values in tatters. The mob is doing exactly what drug and insurance companies want them to. It is time to think for ourselves and remember the last time we tried to pass health care reform under Clinton.

President Obama is amazing. The medal of freedom ceremony was beautiful. Watch it on c-span. This is what we are about.

You leftys need to slow down on all this hate. Obama cant help hes half white. Lies just flow like illegal aliens across the border. Be sure to stop and smell the rape trees and dont forget to spit on the American flag tied in the branches. I will go to jail with Savage and Beck and i take my broke out of work ass to every protest in my area. We are the watchdogs and we got your back. U.S.A. =)
