Poll Says Majority Feel Afghan War Not Worth Fighting – What Do You Think?

August 19, 2009

(ChattahBox) — According to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, while 60 percent of all Americans approve of how President Obama has handled the situation in Afghanistan, 51 percent now say the war is not worth fighting. Not surprisingly, opinions split dramatically down party lines. Overall, 70% of Democrats say the war has not been worth its costs, while 70 percent of Republicans say it is.  42 percent of Americans say the U.S. is winning in Afghanistan, which seems to fall in line with the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, who is expected to request more troops for his stepped-up effort to root the Taliban from Afghan towns and villages.  With an escalating string of attacks in Iraq this month, after American troops withdrew from cities and towns in June, raising serious concerns about the ability of Iraqi security forces to maintain peace, we want to hear from you! Should we press on in Afghanistan? Whether the war was justified or not were we successful in Iraq? Will democracy collapse with or without a strong American presence? Can we win the war on terror with this strategy? Leave us a comment or if you want to post an opinion piece on this subject contact us, and let us know what you have in mind.

Finish it in Afghanistan. If the Taliban comes back there, they will move on Pakistan and get control of nukes. That would be a very bad thing.
