Blogger Sues Google For $15 Million For ‘Outing’ Her Identity

August 24, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – Google is once again under fire over privacy issues after it handed over the identity of a blogger, after that blogger referred to a model as a “psychotic, lying, whoring, skank”.

Liskula Cohen, the model in question, filed a motion with Manhattan courts to have the identity of the blogger revealed. The judge, Joan Madden, agreed with the motion, and ordered Google to hand over the name.

Now, 29-year-old Rosemary Port is suing the Internet giant for what she says is a clear violation of her rights to privacy. She has filed a lawsuit for $15 million.

“Before her suit, there were probably two hits on my web site – one from me looking at it, and one from her looking at it,” Port was quoted by The Guardian.

“Without any warning, I was put on a silver platter for the press to attack me. I would think that a multi-billion dollar conglomerate would protect the rights of all its users.”

The case once again raises the issues of privacy on the Internet, and the responsibility of ISP’s and major web conglomerates to the privacy and protection of it’s users.

I cannot speak to the legality of this issue but I can offer my opinion; I truly hope Rosemary port loses this case. She is a very mean spirited person.

I write a non anonymous blog about the video game industry, Recently I have written some articles about Evony, all that I wrote was provable fact or fair comment. My blog is written in the UK and hosted in the USA. Evony is Chinese. But they are threatening to sue me for libel in Australia. I obviously cannot defend the case despite being in the right and they can enforce any judgement due to reciprocal arrangements.
So they will rewrite history in their favour, stifle fair criticism and destroy any notion of free speech. We are all potential victims of this sort of bullying. Our only way out is to rely on Streisand effect.
Obviously, being a blog I have written this up:
