CIA Director Leon Panetta To Quit CIA Position, Source Claim

August 24, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – There is a lot of contention between the White House and CIA at the moment, and sources inside the CIA say that Panetta has been threatening to quit as a result.

The CIA director allegedly had a ‘screaming match’ with top White House officials when it became clear that the investigation was going forward on torture probes, and that there have been a number of arguments over information that may be released to the public on that issue, as well as other programs.

Leon Panetta has been reported as ‘frustrated’ with his job in the past, such as in the case of certain programs that he only learned of after he took the director position a year ago.

But Panetta has denied that he is planning to leave his position, though a spokesman for the CIA did say of the alleged screaming match that Panetta is well known for using “salty language”.

If the claims that Panetta has threatened to quit are true, it is unclear of how the White House would proceed. It is doubtful that they would want to lose their CIA director, though whether or not that risk would prompt them to withhold information given their promises of transparency, it isn’t clear.
