Federal Cash-For-Appliances Program To Start This Year

August 25, 2009

US (ChattahBox) – The US government has authorized a new cash program, which would offer citizens a rebate on more energy efficient appliances. It is similar to the Cash For Clunkers program, but without the trade-in.

The $300 million federal program is a part of the overall stimulus plan, which is hoped to boost sales in a lagging energy-saving industry, which has become a leading competitor in appliances in the US.

Those who buy products from companies such as Whirlpool and Electrolux will get a $50 to $200 rebate, which would come directly from the program’s funding.

States have until October 15 of this year to submit applications to be a part of the program, and it is expected that most of the money will have been authorized in certain amounts to each state by the end of November.

The move is a slightly desperate one, but necessary in an industry that dropped 15% in July of this year, and is expected to continue dropping over the course of the year.

This new Cash for Appliances program is a great stimulus activity, and one in which lessens the impact that old, worn down, and non-energy efficient appliances have on the earth. I can’t wait for the program to officially go underway, so I can trade in my old refrigerator.

[…] The Cash for Clunkers program was so successful (in that it went bankrupt twice before its official end date and was scrapped itself just like all those perfectly good used cars) that the government is now moving forward with a cash for appliances program.  […]
