NM Gov. Richardson reportedly off the hook on corruption probe

August 27, 2009

Washington (ChattahBox) — A new report suggests New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson won’t be indicted on corruption charges. The former presidential candidate¬† was nominated by President Obama to be commerce secretary, but was forced to withdraw in January after news broke that a federal grand jury was investigating allegations that a Richardson political donor got lucrative deals from the state in exchange for his contributions.¬† The firm reportedly donated heavily to Mr. Richardson’s political action¬† committee. A source familiar with the investigation tells the Associated Press that top Justice Department officials have decided to back off pursuing indictments against Richardson and his staffers.
