Jimena Strengthens to Hurricane Near Acapulco

(ChattahBox) — The second hurricane of the 2009 eastern Pacific season, Hurricane has Jimena formed near the Mexican resort of Acapulco on Saturday,

Located about 285 miles southwest of Acapulco, packing winds of around 80 mph, Jimena was moving west-northwest, roughly in parallel with Mexico’s Pacific coastline, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in an advisory. The storm, may become a “major” hurricane with winds of 111 mph by late tomorrow as it turns to the west-northwest, the center said but isn’t likely to threaten land.
