(ChattahBox)—A new survey conducted by Partnership for Public Service, of 35 federal agencies has good news for job seekers and new college grads.

According to the survey, the federal government is poised to hire about 270,000 new workers over the next three years, due to baby-boomers retiring and President Obama’s expansion of the federal workforce to bring fruition to his bold plans for our country, including health care reform, climate change legislation and regulation of Wall Street and consumer credit companies.

The survey entitled, “Where the Jobs Are 2009: Mission-Critical Opportunities for America,” surveyed agencies representing about 99 percent of the 1.9 million federal workforce showing government-wide, mission-critical hiring needs through 2012.

The survey produced a “most wanted” list for job seekers including, jobs for attorneys, paralegals, investigators, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, police officers, airport screeners, customs and border patrol agents and intelligence analysts.

The new survey found a 41 percent increase in federal job opportunities, compared to the survey conducted in 2007 and is the only comprehensive projection of the federal government’s hiring needs, which is easily searchable on its Web site by occupation or by agency.

Other fields in high demand, include compliance and enforcement with 31,276 projected positions; legal with 23,596 jobs; and administration and program management, 17,287.

Max Stier, president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, called for job seekers to seize the moment:

“For job-seekers motivated by a desire to make a difference and improve the lives of Americans, there are no better possibilities than those provided by our federal government,” said “This report confirms that the job opportunities are there. People need to seize them,” said Stier.

The survey noted that federal jobs are available all overe the world, with many opportunities in the cities of, San Antonio, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York City, Dallas/Fort Worth, Baltimore, Tampa, Chicago and Los Angeles.

And there are certain perks and advantages to working for the federal government. The federal agencies value diversity, offer perks of recruitment bonuses, retention and relocation incentives and graduate school scholarship. Student loan repayments, up to $10,000 per year for a total of $60,000 are also offered in exchange for at least three years of service.
