DC Tea Party Protesters: ‘Bury Obamacare with Kennedy’

September 12, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Angry mobs of right-wing tea party protesters are converging on our nation’s Capitol today to protest President Obama, health care reform, government spending and anything else they can think of. A passerby forwarded Politico a photo of a sign that was being handed out by tea party organizers that reads: “Bury Obamacare with Kennedy.”

The sign is disturbing on many levels. To print and proudly carry such a sign, just days after the death of Senator Ted Kennedy, is beyond the pale. Secondly, the protesters, organized by Glen Beck’s 9/12 group and Dick Armey’s FreedomWorks organization of corporate lobbyists, are not just opposed to health care reform; they are out to take down the presidency of Barack Obama.

And finally, implicit in the sign’s message is an act of violence against the President of the United States. These angry right-wing mobs want to see harm come to our President.

Steve Benen of Washington Monthly’s Political Animal perfectly describes the goal of the tea party movement, described by Bill Maher, as Glenn Beck’s “army of zombie retirees.” Benen notes:

“Indeed, like the “Tea Parties” in April, I’m not altogether sure what it is they’re protesting. Being mad about your side losing a presidential election doesn’t seem like an especially compelling rationale for a rally in D.C., but maybe that’s just me.”

Benen derides Beck’s claim that his group 9/12 is all about unity and brotherhood:

“By any meaningful measure, this is, at a minimum, disingenuous. Beck, Dick Armey, and right-wing organizers have been obsessed with ideological warfare and tearing the country apart. Their goals are to attack Democrats and undermine the Obama presidency.”

“So since March, what has Glenn Beck been doing to re-establish that sense of nonpartisan national brotherhood? Calling President Obama a racist, declaring that the government was bringing fascism upon us, asking his fans to dig up dirt on political figures he doesn’t like, and predicting civil-war-like uprisings.”

Read Benen’s entire article here, as well as other pieces offering his always excellent and astute political observations.

No tears for Kennedy. His memory will survive in infamy. His two lasting monuments: The death of a young woman in 1969 and the immigration act of 1965, which subverted the culture, language, and demographics of America.

Nice bias here. Your reporting has no basis on facts or reason.

Further, Ted Kennedy was one of the greatest enemies of this nation. I have no problem with our country standing up to dispose of these enemies.

Kennedy was brought into the healthcare picture by his friends– you are reading way into the sign– Obama is wrong for this healthcare push. He is trying to throw the baby out with the bathwater. His Presidency is not respected now and reputation falling fast. Don’t try to spin the sign. Obamacare is a form of socialism and theUS citizens are not going to be pleased.

Learn to read with comprehension. No one is calling for harm to Obama, himself … the sign read Bury ObamaCARE … Stop being such a sensationalist. Good grief.

BTW .. the gist of the 9/12 dc today was not about the healthcare or the economy or any specific topic EXCEPT … to bring our country BACK to the Supreme Laws of the Constitution. To bring the government BACK to THE PEOPLE … “We, the PEOPLE” … government FOR the PEOPLE, BY the PEOPLE.

It’s about wanting to allow people to live their own lives as they see fit.

The Republican party has devolved into the tea party. Good luck with the next elections representing the fringe right wing. There is a related post at http://iamsoannoyed.com/?page_id=588

Wow, do you really think that people rise to a level of unintelligence that they can’t see through your tactics here? Talk about manufactured outrage with the Kennedy sign, where were you when they were BURNING A U.S. PRESIDENT IN EFFIGY? Where were you when they made a movie fantasizing about the assassination of GWB? It’s OK to be scared.

Why pitch your argument any other way when it’s so obvious you’re truly scared and aware of the massive uprising of citizens against Socialism? You truly have no idea of how many people voted for Obama who were in that crowd today. I do, I was there. There are many more than you can imagine. Conservatives make up 40% of the Country.

I am a union member and I am not for this intrusion into my health care. President Obama says he is going to pay for this new program with the waste and Fraud found in other government programs. If there is almost a trillion dollars in fraud in two other Government programs why would I think a third government program is going to be any more efficient?? I will no longer vote for a democrat if any part of this Obama care passes. Thank you.

What a biased dungheap this article is. Crowd estimates were at 60,000–how many more do you need to realize this is a legitimate non-violent movement to bring back fiscal responsibility to the policy of our elected officials. Not right or left wing–just common sense fiscal policy.

What isn’t mentioned is that the signs were distributed by the American Life League, a supposed “pro-life” organization. So much for respecting life!

After watching the march on C-SPAN on Saturday, I though “I haven’t seen so many swastikas and photos of Hitler in the streets since watching a History Channel program on World War II.”

Maybe not all, but many of the march attendees are clearly nuts from the Tim McVeigh school of protest. These people are not “concerned citizens” with valid points of view. They are anti-American racists who should be ashamed of carrying swastikas in Washington, D.C., where the greatest generation led the fight against Hitler and the Nazis.
