Obama’s Quiet Accomplishments are Many

November 2, 2009

(ChattahBox)—The Wall Street Journal published a piece this morning, entitled, “Democrats’ Quiet Changes Pile Up,” issuing a backhanded compliment of sorts to the recent legislative accomplishments of the Obama administration. The WSJ notes that President Obama has surpassed Bush’s efforts during his first year in office, to push through legislation important to the Democratic Party.

Just 10 months in office, President Obama and the Democrats have been successful in pushing through five important legislative initiatives, starting with the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, easing restrictions on wage discrimination suits, the renewal and expansion of health insurance for the nation’s poor children, the Omnibus Land Management Act, protecting federal land from development, the Family Smoking and Tobacco Control Act, granting regulatory power to the FDA to regulate tobacco products and the recent and historic Mathew Shepard Hate Crimes Act, expanding federal hate crime protection to categories of sexual orientation and gender.

The new pieces of legislation were all opposed by Republicans, with many conservative lawmakers hotly contesting the expansion of the hate crimes bill.

Rob Nabors, the White House’s deputy budget director, called the series of new laws “a very, very quiet but important victory.”

The WSJ described the vast number of new proposals advanced by the Obama administration, including a major reform of the nation’s health care industry, as a case of “Republicans are being outflanked.” Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), was quoted as saying, “The administration is pushing so many things so rapidly it’s difficult to concentrate on all of them.”

In addition to Obama’s legislative successes, he also managed to finally kill the inferior F-22 fighter jet program, which has long been a military boondoggle that Republicans have continued to protect.

Not bad for just ten months in office, considering Obama was left with a failing economy and two mismanaged wars to deal with, as well.

Obama is trying to make us whole again. To blame President Obama for our troubles and let the R.I.Publicans back in charge will really dooooom this country.
