Bizzaro World of Rupert Murdoch: Obama an ‘Anti-Business’ Racist, Fox News ‘Fair and Balanced’

November 10, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Rupert Murdoch, chairman and CEO of News Corp. is so wealthy that he can create his own alternate bizarro universe, where Fox News conducts real reporting and doesn’t spew out right-wing propaganda on a daily basis. Murdoch’s recent interview with Sky News Australia has generated a lot of controversy and outright mockery for his multiple false statements defending Fox News, and attacking President Obama as a racist who runs an ‘anti-business’ administration that is blocking economic recovery.

Murdoch also takes aim at minority low-income people who had the audacity to take out mortgages and buy homes, who he says are responsible for the housing crisis and the near economic collapse, because they should have been renting in the Ghetto instead.

Murdoch spoke to Sky News political editor David Speers for nearly thirty minutes, where he waged a war on the “parasite” search engine giant Google for “stealing” his online news content and then turned his attention to defending his conservative news network Fox News, readily agreeing with Glenn Beck’s assessment that President Obama is a racist.

When asked to respond to White House criticisms that Fox News was “an arm of the Republican Party.” Murdoch responded, “That’s nonsense and everyone knows it’s nonsense, He’s a very young inexperienced guy,” referring to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

Murdoch then went on to claim that Fox News was a “fair and balanced” news network, with just a couple of strong opinion programs in the evening.

“We do have, it’s perfectly true, a couple of commentary shows in the evenings which tend to be strongly critical.”

But it’s been well documented that the right-wing memes advanced on the nightly opinion shows of Hannity, Beck and O’Reilly make their way to the so called “real” news reporting in the mornings and are echoed by Fox News hosts.

Murdoch then falsely stated that Fox News offers opposing views of Democrats, whereas other networks only have Democratic points of view:

“We have on Republicans and we have on Democrats and we have them debate. The other networks only have Democrats, or something to the left of them.”

This claim is simply untrue. Fox News has never featured a program hosted solely by a Democrat. And other networks, like MSNBC offer conservative programs and pundits, such as former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough’s three-hour morning show and conservative race-baiting pundit Pat Buchanan. CNN has Lou Dobbs; the anti-Obama Glenn Beck wannabe, nativist and conspiracy theorist.

Murdoch was then asked to comment on Glenn Beck’s attack on Obama as a racist, who also organized anti-Obama tea party protests and to respond to the claim that “others on Fox have likened him [Obama] to Stalin.” Murdoch falsely claimed that Fox News never compared Obama to Stalin saying, “No no, not Stalin I don’t think. I don’t know who that is. Not one of our people.”

Of course, Glenn Beck and others on Fox have repeatedly compared Obama to Stalin, Chairman Mao and Adolf Hitler. A recent Glenn Beck episode displayed pictures of Hitler, Stalin, and Lenin, and asked, “Is this where we’re headed?”

But the media mogul was more than happy to agree with the unhinged hate monger and conspiracy theorist Glenn Beck that Obama is a racist:

“On the racist thing, that caused a grilling. But he did make a very racist comment. Ahhh…about, you know, blacks and whites and so on, and which he said in his campaign he would be completely above. And um, that was something which perhaps shouldn’t have been said about the President, but if you actually assess what he [Beck] was talking about, he [Beck] was right.”

Media Matters summed up Murdoch’s disingenuous best: “So there you have it. Fox News’ host calls the president of the United States a racist, Fox News’ owner agrees with him, and Fox News’ president has a long history of appealing to racial fears and biases for political gain as a Republican strategist. But of course, Fox News is a legitimate news organization.”

Murdoch then attacked President Obama’s performance saying he is doing “badly,” and laying the blame for a slow economic recovery on Obama’s “anti-business” sentiment that he acknowledge may not be true, but in Glenn Beck style, he was “just saying.”

“It would seem that the administration is somewhat anti-business, so you are not going to get people starting new businesses or expanding when you ‘ve got this atmosphere. It’s a perception. I’m not saying it’s a correct perception, but it’s a general perception which in itself becomes a fact and is a huge influence on the ability of the economy to recover.”

Murdoch then decided to blame, with a thinly disguised sneer in his voice, the housing crisis on minority low-income folks, who in his opinion were not worthy of home ownership:

“What started it? [economic collapse] A housing crisis. I think it started years ago when the Congress started saying–setting up organizations to lend money to what they call low-income ownership of housing. Lending money to people who really should have been renting.”

Of course, blaming the economic collapse on minority homeowners is palpable nonsense. The mortgage companies did away with lending standards in aggressively marketing sub-prime mortgages, and then re-packaged them into exotic instruments while pressuring credit-rating agencies to award high-grade ratings on the sub-prime junk debt instruments.

The bizarro world that Rupert Murdoch inhabits is indeed a scary alternate reality.

The good news is that Murdoch is old, and will die soon. As far as I am concerned, that day should be today.

[…] Rupert Murdoch also owns Fox News, which Fox News’ Senior Vice President for Programming, Bill Shine recently admitted had the goal of being “the voice of opposition” to the Obama administration. Murdoch also stated in a recent interview that he agrees with Glenn Beck that President Obama is a racist. […]

At Least Fox news will report everything that the OBOMO admin is doing, unlike the others that just twist the news. That is our constitution working. All you people that disagree with fox, should goto communist countries and live there.
where they will zipper your mouths.
