Blackwater Approved Bribes to Iraqi Officials After Bloody Shooting

November 11, 2009

(ChattahBox)—The controversial security firm, Blackwater Worldwide is now facing allegations that the firm approved illegal payments to Iraqi government officials, after the bloody Nissor Square shooting on Sept. 16, 2007. The shooting by Blackwater guards in a busy intersection, left 17 Iraqi civilians dead and dozens wounded. According to the New York Times, four former Blackwater employees told the newspaper that top executives approved secret payments of about $1 million to government officials, to ensure that the firm could retain its operating license to work in Iraq.

The massacre of civilians by Blackwater guards two years ago, caused an International uproar, with calls for the reckless cowboy firm to leave and cease operations in Iraq.

The former Blackwater executives say the bribe money was secured, but they can’t confirm if the cash ever reached the government officials:

“Four former executives said in interviews that Gary Jackson, who was then Blackwater’s president, had approved the bribes and that the money was sent from Amman, Jordan, where the company maintains an operations hub, to a top manager in Iraq. The executives, though, said they did not know whether the cash was delivered to Iraqi officials or the identities of the potential recipients.”

The bribery cash was reportedly then handed over to Rich Garner, who was then a top Blackwater manager in Iraq. The former employees told the NY Times that the decision to make illegal bribery payments “created a deep rift inside the company.”

The State Department replaced Blackwater with a competitor company in May, but Blackwater still has a presence in Iraq, performing security services on a temporary basis.

Five Blackwater guards involved in the deadly shooting are facing federal manslaughter charges and the Iraqi victims have filed a civil lawsuit in federal court against Blackwater and Erik Prince.

Keep in mind that “black water” is sewage, so it should come as no surprise that Blackwater is full of sh*t.
