Biden Makes Surprise Visit to Homeless Shelter

November 14, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Vice President Joe Biden, surprised about 100 homeless men on Friday, as he donned an apron and began serving a meal of fish sticks to the hungry souls waiting in line. Biden stooped in at the Father McKenna Center, just a few blocks away from the U.S. Capitol.

He frequently volunteers to help the homeless at his home state in Delaware, and he wanted to make sure that while in Washington, he didn’t forget about the thousands of the homeless in our nation.

The Vice President dressed to blend in, wearing a black baseball cap, sweater and khakis. Biden said made the visit, because “”you’ve got to remind yourself that but for the grace of God there goes I.” “Sometimes you forget that this is real,” he added.

Biden inquired where he could quietly help the homeless and was directed to the nearby Father McKenna Center.

“I wanted to do this. I asked where I could do this without a lot of fanfare and they told me I could do it here,” he said.
