Fox News Caught AGAIN Using Fake Video

November 19, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Fox News continues to act like a conservative propaganda outlet and not a legitimate news organization. Earlier in the month, Sean Hannity was caught using fake footage, when he misleadingly showed video of the DC 9/12 tea party protest held in September, when reporting on Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-MN) anti-health care rally on Nov. 4. The crowds during the DC rally were considerably larger than the 4,000 protesters that showed up on the Capitol steps.

And once again, Fox News was caught using old footage to support its reporting of large crowd numbers. During a report yesterday, by Gregg Jarrett on Sarah Palin’s book tour in Michigan, he showed footage from the 2008 McCain/Palin campaign, stating on air that the old campaign video was “just coming into us.”

Think Progress first spotted the use of old campaign footage that Fox News claimed was evidence of “huge crowds” attending Palin’s book tour. The campaign video clearly showed McCain/Palin signs and t-shirts, with a prominently displayed campaign sign, reading ” Country First” and showing Palin standing by a teleprompter.

Media Matters found a photo posted last year by Florida TV station CFNews 13 of a November 1, 2008, Palin rally in Ocala, Florida that’s the identical image showed by Fox News. Additionally, Talking Points Memo has video of the same rally, which was posted back in 2008, when it actually happened.

When Jon Stewart caught Sean Hannity using fake footage, Hannity was forced to apologize on air the next day, when he attributed the old footage to an “inadvertent” error.

Now, after getting caught red-handed again, Michael Clemente, senior vice president of news at Fox claims the use of old campaign footage was due to a “production error.” “This was a production error in which the copy editor changed a script and didn’t alert the control room to update the video. There will be an on-air explanation during Happening Now on Thursday,” said Clemente.

According to Mark Silva of The Swamp, “serious disciplinary action” will be taken for this latest transgression of using doctored video and he expects heads to roll. Well, I’ll believe it when I see it.

As pointed out by Media Matters, Fox News has a long history of using doctored video footage, and no heads have rolled due to their previous hackery.
