GOP Rep Steve King: WH Counsel a ‘Gangster’ and ‘Junkyard Dog’

December 4, 2009

(ChattahBox)—The conservative CNSNews site penned a hit piece on attorney Bob Bauer, the new White House counsel entitled, “New White House Counsel Was Defender of ACORN, Waged Legal Battle on Negative Ads.” And the site sought out Acorn conspiracy theorist-in-chief, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) for some colorful quotes. The wacky right-wing extremist lawmaker did not disappoint, as he attacked the new White House counsel as an Acorn operative, having a “Chicago, hardcore gangster government persona.”

Rep. King is convinced that Acorn, the community organization that helps the urban poor, is a nefarious criminal enterprise responsible for most of our nation’s ills. And the Iowa lawmaker believes the international crimes of the mostly minority organization lead right to the White House, calling President Obama “the star of Acorn, the lead, chief organizer.”

King told CNSNews:

“If you wanted a White House counsel to get in their face, Bob Bauer would be your guy. It fits the Rahm persona. It fits the Chicago, hardcore gangster government persona,” King told the right-wing site. “He [Obama] had the chance to pick someone with a different attitude, a different persona and a different public image. But he picked someone with a public image that is a junkyard dog.”

When it was announced that Bob Bauer would be replacing Greg Craig as White House counsel, King accused President Obama of hiring Bauer to cover up his shady dealings with Acorn:

“Bob Bauer has a public record of defending Barack Obama’s relationship with ACORN. Bauer has acted as the agent between Obama and ACORN, and now he will be perfectly positioned to be tasked with erasing the tracks between Obama and Acorn,” said King.

King recently joined several right-wing lawmakers in a media event demanding a federal investigation of Acorn. King showed up at the event carrying a plastic bucket of acorns. He told reporters that he always kept an acorn and a copy of the constitution in his pocket to remind him of the danger Acorn presented to our constitution.
