Tip to Fox News: Polls and Pie Charts Can’t Exceed 100%

December 8, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Fox News is certainly not known for its accuracy in reporting, as the conservative network frequently slants the facts to fit its anti-Obama narrative. And the network has a long history of using doctored video footage. Last month Fox News was caught airing fake video footage twice. And the embarrassed Fox management sent a memo to its employees issuing a new policy of “zero tolerance for on-screen errors” How has that been working for Fox? Not so well.

In the past couple of weeks the right-wing news network has shown that it doesn’t understand basic math principles and the concept of fractions. if Fox News is faced with poll numbers that are not quite in line with its agenda; the network has simply made stuff up. But someone needs to tell their graphics department that pie charts can’t add up to 193 percent and polls can’t total 120 percent.

Last week Fox & Friends aired a manipulated Rasmussen poll asking respondents, if they believed global warming scientists falsified research data. Media Matters has a piece, on exactly how the global warming denying network came up with the claim that 120 percent of Americans believe that scientific data was cooked.

And last month, Think Progress noticed a Fox News fuzzy math pie chart showing that 193 percent of the public supports Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, or Mitt Romney for the GOP nomination in 2012.

Is it any wonder that Fox News is viewed as a hack propaganda outlet?

Well, assuming the dead are allowed to vote, it’s possible that 193% of the public could support the GOP. 3% living, 190% dead (as in “brain-dead”).
