Balloon Boy Parents Sentenced To Jail Terms

December 23, 2009

Colorado (ChattahBox) – Richard and Mayumi Heene, the parents of a young boy that they included in a scam for publicity, have been sentenced to jail time.

The two staged a stunt that their six-year-old son, Falcon, had been taken up in a balloon from their backyard. It launched a major rescue mission involving the National Guard, and cost taxpayers a great deal of money.

Richard will spend 90 days in jail, and his wife, Miyumi, will face 20.

It may seem counter productive to some.

After all, prosecutors argued that the two should be punished because of the huge amount of manpower and taxpayer money spent because of their scam. How is wasting more tax money to jail them any better?

Instead, wouldn’t it be more effective to make them pay a large fine, and perhaps to some community service to pay the community back?

Either way, the couple will be taking their jail time, and will not be allowed to make or keep any money that came from this incident.
